RISE Splint
The Committee on Tactical Combat Casualty Care (CoTCCC) recognizes splinting and pelvic binding application as a critical step to prevent additional injury before moving a casualty.
The RISE™ (Rigid Immobilization System for Extremities) is a rugged, compact, foldable splinting system, designed for use on extremity fractures or as a pelvic binding system. The innovative and lightweight design folds flat for easy storage in an IFAK or medical bag. Quickly deploy the splint by fastening the hinges with snaps to create a 90-degree splint, or simply bend along creases for a straight splint. Fold as needed to adjust the length. Secure in place with an elastic wrap or triangular bandage.
A feature unique to the RISE is the ability to use it as a pelvic binder. Wrap the splint around the back of the patient and feed a windlass or ratcheting tourniquet through one of the cutouts, and use the tourniquet to apply pressure as needed.
This noteworthy design is constructed with a lightweight polymer, that can withstand surface cleaning and harsh elements, including saltwater, while maintaining its rigidity and durability. Ideal for use in the backcountry.
